A Mate For Me, My Fate To Be - Part 1

believe it or not, this is a very strange dream I had.
I really liked it though, so decided to write it down, I'll do more if anyone likes it.

note:
No sexual comments or jokes please, the dream i had was nothing like that, so leave it alone. Don't like? don't read.

"Why do you get to be the lucky one?!"

Berk's castle wall's rang with the annoyed outburst, making Hiccup sit up in surprise.

The door to his nesting room was flung open rather roughly, the form of a dark young dragonoid with the most annoyed expression standing in its quake.

Hiccup took only a glance at the other dragonoid, quickly ignoring the loud entrance and going back to tucking his two eggs farther into the warm nest.
They were due to hatch soon, he had been obsessing over keeping them safe for when the time came.

After a moment he sighed, realizing the other was just going to stand there until Hiccup responded.
With an annoyed huff, the young brown and gold dragonoid turned and crossed his arms.
"Whats the matter, Toothless?"

Toothless snorted, as if that answered the question.
He sulked into the room, smacking the door shut with his tail.

He flopped beside his brother, watching him fuss over the two little brown and white eggs.
"I hate the world."
Hiccup snickered slightly, an amused smile tugging at his lips.
"Whats new."
He glanced at the pouting nightfury.
"Is this about your first moon?"

Hiccup knew he was right, and the annoyed growl out of his brother only further confirmed it.
"I'm not Moon Dancing with someone i don't even know, much less LIKE."

To put it in the best terms Hiccup could,

Berk's royal family was a very long line of Dragon's, different forms of nightfury's, to be exact.
Once a young member of the royal family reached a certain age, they could select a mate, with whom they would complete something known as a 'moon dance'.
It was a special ceremony, and if the two mates were bonded close enough, the Moon would bless them with eggs, thus continuing the royal bloodline.

Stoick, the current standing king, was very picky about who his son's would take as mates, after all, Nightfury's pick a mate for life.
of course he only wanted strong figures for his son's. Someone who could protect the nightfury-bloodline.
Hiccup had already been Moon'd with his mate for a while, happily so.

Now Toothless was coming of age, and frankly the young nightfury was completely against being Moon'd to someone, especially  to someone of their father's picking.

"How am i 'lucky'?" Hiccup asked.
"At least father decided to send you suitors, My mate was picked for me."

Toothless rolled his eyes, now sprawled out across his brothers nest.
"Oh right, because Moon Dancing with the snow Leopard you've been fawning over sense egghood was totally unfair."

Hiccup pursed his lips, pouting.
True, he had known Jack since he was a hatchling, him and the wildcat would spend days running around the castle playing.
Jack's mother, a beautiful Snow Leopard Queen, had become good friends with Hiccup's father. The two young princes being Moon'd, or 'married' as Jack called it, was to ensure peace between the kingdom's.
The fact that they'd fallen for each other completely just sort of, happened. Not to mention the reputation Snow Leopards had for being almost savagely protective of their mates and young, which pleased Hiccup's father greatly.

"I didn't fawn over him..." Hiccup grumbled.
"you walked into a wall when he said 'hi' once."
".....okay maybe a little" Hiccup shook off the rising blush.
"the point is, mine turned out great, who's to say you won't find a good mate yourself?  Dad just wants you to have someone who can protect you...."
"I can protect myself!"
"Try telling him that."

Toothless played with his tail.
"I DID"
"And?"
"He got mad."
"Shocking."

Toothless looked away, eyes changing to a more sad tone.
"I just want to be in love......like you...If i take whatever Mate is given to me, I throw any chance of that away. I don't want a mate, I want a soul mate."
Hiccup's face fell.
He moved, making sure not to bump his eggs, and brought his brothers head in his lap, gently curling and entwining his tail with the youngers.
Toothless purred softly, snuggling into the familiar feeling.
Hiccup used to hold his little brother like this all the time, He and Jack would always chase away the nightmares....
"Just try to enjoy it bud." Hiccup offered.
"there's a chance you'll meet someone who fits you."
"And if not?" Toothless glanced up at him sadly.
Hiccup gently petting the youngers ears.


"then Dad'll have to go through me."
